Meet our Founder ~ Jess Scott

Posted by nina coulson on

We sat down with our Founder, Director, Mother and all-round beautiful human Jess Scott to chat about all things Bubba Cloud; how the brand was born, her daily habits, her challenges and more. Sit down, relax, grab a cuppa and enjoy the read while your bub is blissing out in their Cloud next to you.

Hi Jess, how are you? Firstly, can you share a little bit about you and your family?

Hey Guys and thanks so much for stopping by our humble little Bubba Cloud site. My name is Jess and I’m 34 years old, I live on the Southern end of the beautiful Gold Coast with my 3.5 year old Daughter Hazey, Husband Muz and our beloved family Cat, Blondie. We love the beach, camping and everything that goes with the coastal lifestyle.

What was the inspiration and motivation behind starting Bubba Cloud?

Bubba Cloud began when our little girl Hazey was born. She hated being put down on her back with nothing to support or comfort her; so I made her the very first Cloud on my trusty Janome machine and Muz dubbed it the “Bubba Cloud”. There were some loungers on the market at the time, however I had an idea that I wanted to bring to life; a Linen Lounger! Hazey loved it and soon my friends were placing orders and the business grew organically from there.

What challenges did you have to overcome creating your small biz?

With every small business comes with it the stress of cashflow, planning for growth, stock delays etc, all while still trying to be creative and innovative. As a jack of all trades, I tried to do it all on my own however I’ve now learnt to delegate and take on a small team to assist; I've also learnt to ask for help when I need it.

Can you tell us a little bit more about how you create each colour for the cloud and where your inspiration draws from?

This is my favourite part, as an Interior Designer by trade colour is my life and I love to draw my inspiration from my surrounds. Each colour of linen that we use has been carefully selected to reflect the things in nature that I love and that also spark joy and happiness. From the leafy green valley of our Forest Green shade to the Sandy beach days of our Sand Dune Linen.

You are a mumma, biz owner, and beautiful friend ~ what does a typical day look like for you, and how do you juggle it all?

I love to keep busy, being still and taking time to just sit down are not things that come naturally to me haha. Each day I wake up early with Hazey and we make and eat breakfast together. Muz usually starts work early so Hazey and I like to take our time in the morning to get ready before we have to rush out the door. I Drop Hazey to Kindy and then start my day at the Bubba Cloud HQ. Then its coffee, packing orders, emails, and all things BC for the rest of the day. I like to squeeze in a gym session before I pick Hazey up, (that’s my 1 hour of 'me time' for the day and I love it) We then love to head down to the beach as a family in the afternoons before the dinner, bath, bed routine commences. Honestly, I don’t know how Mother’s do it but somehow we just make it all work, we have to!

On the weekends we like to take it slow and enjoy our time together as a family and with our friends, usually at the beach.

Who do you look to for guidance, inspiration and advice in motherhood and life?

My beautiful husband, friends and family are always there to provide advice when I need it, a shoulder to lean on and constant support in life, business, motherhood and everything in between ~ I feel so lucky to have them all.

What does 2022 look like for you, your family and Bubba Cloud?

We’re all very excited because this year our little family is growing with another little bub on the way! I cant wait to use the Bubba Cloud again and Hazey is very excited to become a big sister.

And lastly, we’d love to you if you have any advice or tips for other Mumma’s or Women who are looking at turning their passion into a business.

Running a small business is no easy task, but it’s so worth it! Taking that leap when you’re hesitant and just trusting the process is the best decision you can make. In saying that, I’ve definitely had my doubts (and still do).  I didn’t want to quit my day job at the time but I had to take a chance and give it a go. Whether you fail or succeed, it’s all part of life and you’ll never know what will be until you give it a go. Becoming a mother also gave me a newfound confidence that I never had before, whatever crisis you find yourself in, there’s always a way out, just trust the process! x
